How did Andy learn to do this kind of woodwork?

Andy has been working with wood since he was a kid and did a lot of carpentry as a teen and a young man. He began to focus primarily on rocking chairs in 2002, when he studied the craft under a master rocking chair maker in Virginia. Since then, he has taken the precision joinery techniques and softened up the edges. He has really gained a love for organic, sculpted woodworking.

Does Andy have a family?

Yes, he and his wife, Sherry, were married in 1992 and plan to grow very old together. They have an almost-teenage son and an elementary school age daughter. And two friendly shop dogs. And a couple of fish. Oh, and an occasional toad or injured bird or interesting spider...

What does Andy do for fun?

When he's not making sawdust, Andy enjoys road trips, exploring the great outdoors, the ocean, theater and music, baseball, and tubing the Bitterroot River.

"…I've taken a number of classes from notable craftsmen/instructors, and can say that my most rewarding experiences have been my two classes with Andy Chidwick.  I’ve left his classes empowered with new skills to employ in other projects.  People see the chairs I've made and are stunned... Thanks to Andy, I'm a ROCK STAR woodworker in my friends' eyes.” -Bruce
